Jukebox Friday: Randomizer.

No theme today, just videos for five songs I like:

Sonic Youth at their commercial, poppy best with "Bull in the Heather":

The magnificent Dame Shirley Bassey covers Pink's "Get the Party Started" for a British TV commercial:

The DLS Band and a couple special guests do a great cover of ELO's "Mr. Blue Sky" for Belgian television:

MOTORHEAD!!!!! That's all you need to know:

And finally, it's the Avalanches with an absolutely killer video for "Frontier Psychiatrist":

Bleeding Blue, But Not From a Broken Heart.

There are lots of very good reasons why I don't usually watch shows like "The Bachelorette," so you can forgive me for missing this. At least the interwebs are here to preserve Tommy Lasorda's cameo on the show. And here I thought Tommy was only an expert on baseball and pasta. (Oh yeah, and wine, too.)

It's Summertime and the Living is Shitty.

Summer's here! That means glorious days on the beach, basking in the sun, getting sunburned, trying not to step on the medical waste, avoiding riptides and shark attacks, and getting sand wedged up in your buttcrack. Good times. And what better soundtrack for these lazy summer days than the languid sounds of the Shitty Beach Boys?

Someday, My Log Will Have Something to Say.

I've been on something of a "Twin Peaks" kick lately, rewatching the whole series in its entirety. Just as brilliant as I remember it being (no matter how shaky things get toward the end there). Which brings me to these clips.

A tribute/parody, rendered in Lego:

And you know a series is popular when Sesame Street jumps on the bandwagon:

Bollywood Monday: Shake It, Barbie.

Happy Memorial Day to all you Americans out there!

Here are a sexed up Asha Bhosle and Prem Chopra performing "Lo Mera Pyar" from the film "Nafrat" (1973):

Jukebox Friday: Saffron and Friends.

Remember when Republica was just about the hottest thing around? At least, if you loved BritAltRock.

"Ready to Go":

"Drop Dead Gorgeous":

This was originally just going to be a Republica post, but watching these videos again made me want to post these, too:

Elastica, "Connection":

Garbage, "Only Happy When it Rains":

Aah, the '90s.... Come back! All is forgiven!

The Feel-Good Clip of the Year.

You may not know their faces or their names, but you definitely know their voices. In a world that was crying out for a hero, five brave men risked it all to bring us the gift of hope:

What's better than fresh, hot pepperoni pizza? Watching it go round 'n' round on your TV screen, of course. Order yours today!

Here's a Mashup Monday quickie for you. It's a fan video for rx's "Dick is a Killer." (Caution! Not safe for work! Also not safe for Americans or other living things!):

Tiny Tim, "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?":

Those Dancing Days, "Those Dancing Days":

Freezepop, "Less Talk More Rokk":

Mashup Monday: Spongbob is Hot.

With a little help from Mims, Spongebob Squarepants explains why he's hot:

Jukebox Friday: All About Brigitte.

Brigitte Bardot may have been gorgeous and a terrific singer, but she was more than just a yé-yé girl. Here are a couple of her odder musical selections, both courtesy of her musical partnership with Serge Gainsbourg:

"Contact":

"La Bises Aux Hippies":

Sabbath Unplugged.

Um.... I don't know exactly what to make of this, but maybe you do.

Go Ozzy!

From Japan comes Sangaria:

From a much cooler era comes Salvador Dali, the corporate shill:

And finally, from the Land of Fuck You (a.k.a. Baltimore) comes Big Bill Hell:

Bollywood Monday: Déja Vu.

A lot of western cultural appropriation goes on in Bollywood films, whether it's clumsy like some of Chiru's stuff, or something more sophisticated. Then there's this, a wholesale reproduction of the lobby shootout from "The Matrix." The film is "Awara Pagal Deewana" (2002), which is actually a remake of "The Whole Nine Yards" (2000):

Metapost: No Jukebox.

Real life has me tied up right now and is doing unspeakable things to me. No Jukebox Friday post today, but I'll try to make it up to you next week. Okay?
