Baseball Monday: Opening Day is Here!

We're going to take a week off from our regular Bollywood Monday feature to celebrate something of great import -- the start of the baseball season.

Now, I'm usually loath to post any kind of viral marketing videos, but I'm going to relax my rules here. Not only are these a pretty spoof of the Tom Emanski-style instructional videos, but they also feature my boys Matt Kemp:

...and Andre Ethier:

While there are a lot of reasons to have high hopes for my Dodgers in the coming season, now is also a time to look back. I know I've posted this one before, but it needs to be seen again. Because anytime is a good time for "Baseball Boogie":

And finally, one guy shares his love for Peter Gammons:

Jukebox Friday: Positively Un-American.

I get so bored with American (and even British) music sometimes. The new stuff just gets so stale so quickly. International acts have been a lot more interesting to me lately, even those who seem to be leaning toward a more Anglo-American sound. Here are some examples.

"Zock On" is the newest single from Japan's Teriyaki Boyz. It features Pharrell and Busta Rhymes, so the sound is about as mainstream American hip hop as you can get. Still good, though:

On the other end of the spectrum, also from Japan, is Boris with their blistering rock screed "Statement":

Yelle, from France, obviously has an affinity for the '80s, from her fashions to her Euro-synth inspired sound. This is her latest, "Je Veux Te Voir":

How about some Bulgarian hip hop? From 2006, this is "Tochno Sega" by Azis and Ustata:

"The Penis is On Fire."

Is your love life getting you down? Sounds like you need the relationship advice of public access dynamo Alexyss K. Tylor.

Don't get caught up in the penis power:

Instead, harness your vagina power and pilot the pussy. (Special Halloween episode!):

Finally, don't forget to be careful with the dick, because it might make you want to slap somebody. (And that's one to grow on):

A Lot of Awkward Silences.

This has been sitting around my favorites list for a while and I can't remember now where it came from. But it illustrates just where "The Wonder Years" would be without all that constant voiceover narration:

From the fine folks at "Eh Day" comes a new product, perfect for that guy on the go:

Jukebox Friday: Special Wednesday Edition.

The Desuko crew is getting ready to take off for a little spring break, so let's wind up this short week with an extra-bountiful jukebox post. No theme this week, just groovy tunes.

Redd Kross, "Jimmy's Fantasy":

Bat For Lashes, "What's a Girl to Do":

Foetus, "Theme from Pigdom Come" followed by a short interview and a live performance of "Descent Into the Inferno", all from 1985:

Mudhoney performing "Hate the Police" live in Prague in 2006:

Don Ho's cover of Peter Gabriel's "Shock the Monkey":

And finally, Hall and Oates' early hit "She's Gone," in all it's bargain basement, public access TV station glory:

Te Amo, Mamacita.

Watch the ladies burn with desire from the sultry passion that is "The One Semester of Spanish Love Song":

Bollywood Monday: All Hail Ganesh.

I don't have any background at all on this film, except that it's called "Annai Oru Aalayam" and is from 1979. But this is too good not to share. There's some light buddy comedy, some insanely wacky animal hijinks, and this being Bollywood and all, even a catchy song.

The first part establishes the concept:

And part two just brings it on home with a vengeance:

Jukebox Friday: The Gossip.

If you're not hep to The Gossip already, let me hep you to this Olympia-based electro-soul trio, led by the brassy vocals of Kathy Ditto.

"Standing in the Way of Control":

The original indie video for "Listen Up!":

Some Words From Our Sponsors.

Here's another collection of weird and wonderful television commercials.

First, proving Gene Simmons will do anything for a tawdry buck, it's the KISS toothbrush! Rock on!

Joey Heatherton can sell me a mattress any day:

Not even the communists could resist the siren call of capitalism. This is a beauty products commercial from the old Soviet Union:

This is even cooler than the KISS toothbrush. I want one!

And saving the best for last, it's... POLE POSITION!!!!

Jumping Someone Else's WTF.

This clip has been making the blog rounds in the past few days, so I present it to you as well. Who am I to buck a trend?

Anyway, here it is without comment, because it's better that way...

Bollywood Monday: Barak Obollywood.

This video is a lot like a platypus -- there's no good reason for it to exist, and yet it does. Here's an utterly batshit insane Bollywood mashup video starring Barak Obama. (Why? Because it's the internet, silly!)

Jukebox Friday: Euro Wave.

Today's subject -- early '80s European New Wave! Pay attention, because it'll be on the quiz...

From France, Les Rita Mitsouko with "Marcia Baila":

From West Germany, Joachim Witt exhibiting his mad Defender skills on "Herbergsvater":

Also from West Germany, it's George Kranz performing "Din Da Da":

Of course, this post wouldn't be complete without Trio's "Da Da Da" (so well known for all its TV ad appearances):

Home Shopping.... of the Future!!!

Check out how cool this is! In the far distant future year of 1999 we'll all be able to go shopping without leaving home! We'll be able to see pictures of our items on a highly technological screen, send in our money by scientific magic, and then get our items sent directly to us! All without getting off our asses! Maybe they should give this invention a catchy name, like "internet" or something....

(Now, if only there was a way to make these home video consoles show cheesy old film clips on demand. Hmmm....)

Bump 'n' Bash With the Muppets.

So, how do you like your Muppets mash-up videos? Do you want to groove all night on the dancefloor...

...or bang your head into death metal oblivion?

You decide -- polls are still open!

Bollywood Monday: Touch Me.

And by "Touch Me," I don't mean The Doors, or Samantha Fox, or even "Rocky Horror." Nope, in this case it's once again the luscious Aishwarya Rai dancing with Hrithik Roshan on "Touch Me" from the 2006 film "Dhoom 2":

(For the record, the playback singers are Kay Kay and Alisha Chinoi.)
